The Provincial Recruiting team were out in force promoting Freemasonry at the Devon County Show at West Point Arena near Exeter last week. The team consisting of W Bros: David Bennett, Denis Langmead, Rob Summers, John Pritchard, Chris Potter and Graham Snell braved the inclement weather to talk to members of the public about Freemasonry and about how it benefits society.
The exhibit which consisted of pull-up banners, a promotional film and a Teddies for Loving Care display – looked after by W Bro. John Adcock – attracted a number of visitors (despite the bad weather and low turn-out) some of whom expressed an interest in discovering more about the Craft.
The highlight of the show was of course the visit by the Most Worshipful The Grand Master HRH The Duke of Kent on Friday, when he was received by the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire Rt.W.Bro. Ian Kingsbury and his wife Toni, along with W.Bros. Richard Speed and Peter Keaty.
The Grand Master talked to R. W. Bro. Ian Kingsbury who then presented the Duke of Kent with a gift hamper. Of this W Bro. David Bennett said, ‘It was a great honour for us to be visited by our Grand Master and he seemed very impressed by what he saw.’
Sadly, the show was cancelled on Saturday because of the bad weather and consequent health & Safety concerns – nevertheless the Road Show was well received and totally proved its worth. The Team will be out in force again later in the year at both the North and Mid-Devon Shows.
